Delivering Results for Southeastern Massachusetts

In my time as a State Senator, I’ve worked to ensure that children are provided for, kept safe, and given all the best resources available to succeed. Whether that means prioritizing learning in the classroom or generating safeguards to give foster children the best possible future, I will always ensure that every child in my district is cared for.

View the recent highlights that support the well-being of children in the First Bristol and Plymouth district.

Cell Phone Ban Bill: We are all, rightfully, concerned about how the ever-encroaching pull of social media and the proliferation of technology are affecting our children’s lives. The classroom should be a safe place for young people to learn, which is why I strongly support legislation that removes cell phones form the classroom for the entire school day, with reasonable exceptions.

Protecting Children from Sexual Assaults by Adults in Positions of Authority or Trust: I fought for an amendment to be added to the Fiscal Year 2027 Budget that strengthens safeguards for children aged 16 and 17 who have been sexually abused by adults who are responsible for their care and oversight. Mandated reporters, including teachers, coaches, police officers, and social workers, should be held to a higher standard when it comes to our children’s safety.

Universal School Meals: No child should ever go hungry, especially if having limited access to food negatively impacts their ability to thrive in an academic setting. That’s why I worked in the Senate to codify a program that guarantees free breakfast and lunch for every child in Massachusetts, regardless of their family’s income.

Foster Child Bill of Rights: Children in the foster care system have already been through more than any child should have to bear. Which is why I fought to enhance the rights and protections of kids in state and foster care, who need our help to thrive.
